History of the "Creatwood" Name...

Traditional history says that the jonquils, today’s official city symbol, were introduced to Smyrna by Samuel Taylor and his wife who moved here from Atlanta in 1883. The Taylors purchased 80 acres of land on Atlanta Road. Four other families – Crow, Ray, Eubanks and Anderson – purchased the adjacent 270 acres of land around the same time. This area became known as CREAT Wood (CREAT formed from the first letter of the families’ last names). This is where the name for the Creatwood neighborhood built in the 1950s originated.
